South Sumatra – PT Hutama Karya Infrastruktur (HKI) is currently working on the construction of the Palembang Junction. Spanning a total length of 8.3 km, this junction will integrate the Kayuagung-Palembang-Betung Toll Road with the Palembang-Indralaya-Prabumulih Toll Road.

As of mid-2024, the progress of the Palembang Junction construction is quite significant. “HKI is constructing eight ramps at the Palembang Junction, with five ramps targeted for completion by the end of 2024, while the remaining three ramps are planned to be finished in 2025,” said Aditya Novendra Jaya, Director of Operations III at HKI.

Once operational, the Palembang Junction will facilitate more seamless access for travelers coming from Lampung to Prabumulih and vice versa, as well as from Prabumulih to Betung and vice versa, without the need to exit via toll gates.

“Previously, those traveling on the Kayuagung-Palembang-Betung Toll Road heading toward the Palembang-Indralaya-Prabumulih route, or vice versa, had to exit the toll road and use national roads. When completed, the Palembang Junction will directly connect these two toll roads, significantly reducing travel time,” explained Aditya.

From a technical perspective, the Palembang Junction consists of eight ramps, each with a planned lane width of four meters, utilizing an elevated structure design, and a planned speed of 40–60 km/h.

To ensure that the construction of the Palembang Junction does not disrupt the operation of nearby active toll roads, HKI is implementing PCI girder erection using a launcher. Adjustments in the girder erection process are carried out with traffic engineering and safe traffic management in coordination with toll road operators and related stakeholders.

To address challenges and optimize the construction process, HKI has fully adopted digital construction technology, including Building Information Modelling (BIM). BIM is applied from the final technical planning (RTA) phase, shop drawing (SD) execution phase, to accurate measurement of work quantities using Terrestrial Laser Scanner (TLS). Additionally, photogrammetry is employed to monitor real-time progress at the construction site.

With these meticulous efforts, the Palembang Junction project is expected to enhance connectivity and positively impact economic growth in South Sumatra Province.
