Padang – PT Hutama Karya Infrastruktur (HKI), a subsidiary of PT Hutama Karya (Persero), is accelerating the construction of a rest area, also known as Service and Rest Area (TIP), on the Trans-Sumatra Toll Road (JTTS), specifically along the Padang–Sicincin section. As of April 2025, the project’s physical progress has reached 80.06%.
“This project, located at STA 23+000, includes two rest areas—one on each roadway. The rest area on route A serves traffic from Padang to Sicincin, while the one on route B serves traffic from Sicincin to Padang. We are committed to ensuring the project meets quality standards and is completed on schedule by June,” said Aditya Novendra Jaya, Director of Operations III.
The Padang–Sicincin rest areas are classified as Type A, providing comprehensive facilities such as a mosque, public restrooms, a clinic, a workshop, a fuel station (SPBU), a management office, a wastewater treatment facility, a food court accommodating 16 MSME tenants, and one convenience store.
By providing space for MSME tenants, it aims not only to support the local economy around Padang–Sicincin, but also to serve as a strategic platform to showcase West Sumatra’s unique culinary and cultural offerings to visitors.
To ensure smooth traffic flow and user convenience, the rest area on route A provides parking for 211 Class I vehicles and 55 Class II–V vehicles. On route B, parking is available for 210 Class I vehicles and 59 Class II–V vehicles.
The construction of the rest area utilizes modern construction technologies, including Building Information Modeling (BIM), which is used to create and manage digital representations of the physical and functional aspects of the facility.
Architecturally, the rest area adopts a neo-vernacular design inspired by Minangkabau culture. The buildings feature contemporary materials combined with traditional Minang elements, including the iconic roof design, decorative patterns resembling crowns, bat wings, fish fins, and traditional carvings—all crafted by local artisans.
“HKI is not only focused on physical construction, but also on preserving cultural heritage. To ensure the architectural elements represent Minangkabau culture accurately, we collaborated with Minangkabau cultural specialists on the gonjong roofing (the pointed, upward-sweeping roofs) for the food court buildings,” Aditya added.
Once completed, the rest areas along the Padang–Sicincin Toll Road are expected to enhance the experience and comfort of travelers while also supporting smoother traffic flow on the toll road.
HKI is currently working on several other projects within the Trans-Sumatra Toll Road (JTTS) network, including the Pekanbaru Ring Road, Simpang Palembang–Indralaya, Palembang–Betung Section III, Palembang–Betung Structure, Betung–Jambi Sections IA, IB, 2A, 2B, and IV, and the Medan–Binjai Toll Road Rest Area. Outside the JTTS network, HKI is also constructing the Probolinggo–Banyuwangi Toll Road Package II and the Jakarta–Cikampek Selatan Toll Road Package 2A.
