West Sumatra – Minister of Public Works Dody Hanggodo inspected the Lembah Anai Access Recovery Project and the Malalak Access Recovery Project on Wednesday (January 28). The visit to the projects being carried out by PT Hutama Karya Infrastruktur (HKI) reflects the government’s support for accelerating recovery efforts following the floods that struck West Sumatra in November 2025.
During the visit, the Minister was accompanied by Deputy Chairman of Commission VI of the DPR RI Andre Rosiade, Governor of West Sumatra Mahyeldi Ansharullah, Agam Regent Benni Warlis, Tanah Datar Regent Eka Putra, and HKI Director of Operations III Aditya Novendra Jaya. While reviewing on-site progress, Minister Dody Hanggodo emphasized the need for permanent works. “Immediately carry out permanent works so the road can be safely used by the public,” he stated during his visit to the Malalak Access Recovery Project.
Previously, landslides in the Malalak area caused 26 landslide points, including the failure of one box culvert and one bridge across nine locations, resulting in disrupted access. Currently, eight locations have been reconnected and are passable. HKI has installed Bailey bridges at KM 74 and KM 79, is constructing an Aramco bridge at KM 74 with progress reaching 80% and expected completion within one week, and has widened the road at KM 75 using jumbo bags to facilitate temporary traffic flow. One remaining point at KM 82+600 to KM 82+800 is still in the preparation stage for construction.
Meanwhile, HKI continues to carry out permanent recovery works to restore access at Lembah Anai to its normal condition. Acceleration efforts are ongoing while maintaining strict safety measures for workers and road users. These works aim to restore West Sumatra’s main connectivity affected by the disaster and ensure road safety.
To ensure quality and safety, HKI conducts regular slope and structural monitoring, including post-rain inspections and surveillance of vulnerable points. If rainfall intensity poses risks to workers, on-site activities are temporarily halted. “At Lembah Anai, we have installed early warning systems to detect potential landslides and upstream water flow for worker safety. Ensuring worker safety on site remains our top priority,” said Aditya Novendra Jaya, HKI Director of Operations III.
The target completion for Lembah Anai access recovery is by the end of July, while the Malalak access recovery is targeted for early 2027. Nevertheless, both routes are expected to be functional before this year’s Eid holiday.
During the Eid holiday period, Lembah Anai will implement a 24-hour two-lane open traffic scheme for 16 days, after which a partial open–close traffic system will resume until full completion. For Malalak, the functional traffic scheme will be adjusted based on available land conditions.
Progress on both projects is supported by strong multi-stakeholder synergy. “HKI extends its appreciation to all stakeholders, particularly the Ministry of Public Works, for the trust, supervision, and guidance provided. With strong collaboration, we hope the recovery of Lembah Anai and Malalak access can proceed smoothly, restoring Padang–Bukittinggi connectivity and supporting mobility for the people of West Sumatra,” concluded Aditya.
