Jakarta – PT Hutama Karya Infrastruktur (HKI) remains committed to implementing sustainability and community empowerment through its Corporate Social and Environmental Responsibility (CSR) programs. This commitment was reflected in a recent initiative to recycle waste paper into company desk calendars and souvenirs from late 2024 through early 2025.

HKI President Director Aji Prasetyanti explained that the initiative is a concrete application of sustainable business practices. “This CSR program adopts a Creating Shared Value (CSV) approach. We empower local communities while reducing paper waste. The final products are company-branded souvenirs made from recycled materials,” she said.

HKI processed approximately 1.9 tons of waste paper into desk calendars and branded souvenirs. For the desk calendars, HKI collaborated with the small enterprise Kertas Kertasan. The production involved shredding, printing, and drying the waste paper before assembling it into calendars. Each calendar package also includes a greeting card embedded with spinach seeds that can be planted.

In addition to calendars, HKI also transformed waste paper into various corporate souvenirs such as notebook covers, tissue boxes, multipurpose storage containers, and pencil holders. These souvenirs were made by weaving the paper into rattan-like designs. This production was carried out in collaboration with the Salam Rancage community, empowering a group of women in Gang Kodir, North Bogor.

Both initiatives are aligned with the company’s commitment to Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles. “We believe ESG and sustainability are not temporary trends, but corporate responsibilities. Through these programs, we’re not only reducing waste but also contributing to the local economy,” added Aji.

HKI plans to continue developing sustainable CSRprograms that deliver added value to local ecosystems and communities surrounding its operational areas.

As of 2024, HKI has carried out numerous CSR initiatives under the environmental, social, and economic pillars across Java and Sumatra. By the end of 2024, HKI had constructed approximately 435.92 km of the Trans Sumatra Toll Road (JTTS). Ongoing projects include Pekanbaru Ring Road Toll (30.57 km), Betung–Jambi Section 1A (30.8 km), Section 1B (31.6 km), Section 2A (35.92 km), Section 2B (18.40 km), Section IV (18.5 km), Palembang–Betung Section III (14.6 km), and the Palembang–Betung Structure (10.12 km). HKI is also working on non-JTTS projects such as the Probolinggo–Banyuwangi Toll Road Package II (11.2 km) and Jakarta–Cikampek II South Toll Road Package IIA (11.3 km).
