Lampung – PT Hutama Karya Infrastruktur (HKI), in collaboration with PT Hutama Karya (Persero) and PT Hakaaston (HKA), launched the “Gerakan Perahu Literasi” (Literacy Boat Initiative) on Thursday (24/04) at Minang Rua Beach, South Lampung. This program was held in conjunction with World Book Day, which falls on April 23, and targets coastal communities and remote islands in the Lampung and Banten regions.

Executive Vice President (EVP) Corporate Secretary of Hutama Karya, Adjib Al Hakim, stated that this initiative is a concrete implementation of the Hutama Karya Group’s Social and Environmental Responsibility (CSR) program under the Education pillar.

“Through the Literacy Boat Initiative, we aim to ensure that the benefits of books and education reach all layers of society, including those in remote areas. Every book we deliver is part of our effort to broaden horizons and cultivate lifelong learning, in line with the 2025 World Book Day global theme: ‘Read Your Way: Diverse Books for Every Mind',” said Adjib.

As part of the program, Hutama Karya Group provided support in the form of one fiberglass library boat complete with an engine, one Lenovo Core i3 laptop, 150 school bags, 150 pairs of school shoes, 150 stationery kits, and 340 donated reading books from Hutama Karya Group employees. These were distributed to several key locations including Rimau Balak Island, Sebesi Island, Sebuku Island, Minang Rua Beach, Guci Batu Kapal Beach, Mutun Beach, the Sunda Strait, and Sangiang Island. The library boat is expected to benefit around 300 students in surrounding areas by improving access to quality education and reading materials.

The program began with an opening ceremony attended by Harya Digdaya representing Hutama Karya Group, Radmiadi as Head of the Literacy Boat Community, Ahmad Heri representing the South Lampung regional government, and local traditional leaders. Following a symbolic handover of aid and a traditional boat-launch ritual, the team visited Ketapang District in South Lampung to deliver assistance to students of SDN 1 Sumur.

Radmiadi, Head of the Literacy Boat Community, expressed appreciation for the support provided. “This program greatly helps those of us living on islands and coastal areas. Previously, children here had very limited access to quality reading materials. With the Literacy Boat and the educational equipment provided by Hutama Karya, our children are now more motivated to learn and read. The laptop is also very valuable for supporting teaching and learning activities in our school,” he said.

The Literacy Boat Initiative builds on efforts started in 2016, where literacy volunteers have consistently delivered books to islands using library boats. After facing challenges due to damaged boats, the support from Hutama Karya Group has enabled a broader and more effective reach for the initiative.

“This program goes beyond physical donations. It reflects the transformation of SOEs (State-Owned Enterprises) towards fostering culture and values by improving educational quality. The Literacy Boat Initiative demonstrates our commitment to supporting Indonesia’s Golden Vision 2045 and the government’s strategic agenda for equal education access across the country,” added Adjib.

Hutama Karya Group hopes that the Literacy Boat Initiative will create long-term impact for coastal and island communities. “Every donated book and educational facility provided is a tangible investment in advancing Indonesian children’s education and preparing them to become a generation ready to face global challenges,” concluded Adjib Al Hakim, EVP Corporate Secretary of Hutama Karya.
