Padang – PT Hutama Karya Infrastruktur (HKI) has completed the construction of two rest and service areas (TIP), on the Padang-Sicincin Toll Road as of late June. The food court buildings at these rest areas on the 36.6-kilometer toll road section are designed adopting Minangkabau traditional house architecture.
"By the end of June 2025, the construction progress of the Padang-Sicincin Toll Road rest areas reached 100%. These two rest areas are located at STA 23+000, each on route A, from Padang to Sicincin, and route B, from Sicincin to Padang," said Aditya Novendra Jaya, Director of Operations III.
The Padang-Sicincin toll rest areas are classified as type A. Facilities built by HKI at these rest areas include a mosque, public restrooms and accessible restrooms, a clinic, a workshop, a management office, a waste treatment building, a food court capable of accommodating 16 MSME tenants and one minimarket, as well as prepared land for a gas station.
To support smooth mobility and user comfort on the toll road, the rest area on route A provides parking for 212 vehicles of class I and 57 vehicles of classes II to V. Meanwhile, route B offers parking capacity for 213 class I vehicles and 59 vehicles from classes II to V.
Since the Padang-Sicincin Toll Road began operation in May 2025, it is expected not only to help boost the economy of the communities around Padang-Sicincin but also serve as a strategic place to introduce West Sumatra’s unique culture and cuisine to visitors of the rest areas.
The company’s attention to local wisdom is reflected in the design of the food court buildings. The food court architecture features a neo-vernacular style, adopting the Minangkabau traditional house design with modern construction materials. These modern materials are combined with typical Minangkabau ornaments such as the crown, bat chest, fish fin, and traditional carving motifs. All materials are produced by local craftsmen.
“HKI does not just build physical structures but also preserves cultural heritage. To ensure the rest area architecture represents Minangkabau culture, we collaborated with Minangkabau specialists in carrying out the gonjong (pointed upward roof shape) and ampig (side walls or outer edges of the house) works on the food court buildings,” added HKI’s Director of Operations III, Aditya Novendra Jaya.
The rest areas on the Padang-Sicincin Toll Road are expected to enhance the experience and comfort of travelers while supporting smooth traffic flow on the toll road.
Currently, HKI is still working on several sections of the Trans-Sumatra Toll Road (JTTS), including the Pekanbaru Ring Road, Palembang-Betung Section III, Palembang-Betung Structure, Betung-Jambi Sections IA, IB, 2A, 2B, and IV. For non-JTTS toll road projects, HKI is working on the Probolinggo-Banyuwangi Toll Road Package II and the Cikampek Selatan Toll Road Package 2A.
