South Sumatra – The construction of the Trans-Sumatra Toll Road (JTTS) by PT Hutama Karya Infrastruktur (HKI) continues to advance, with notable progress achieved in the Betung–Jambi Toll Road Section 1A project. As of the end of September 2025, construction progress has reached 49% for this section, which will connect Betung to Supat Induk.
“For the Betung–Jambi Toll Road Section 1A project, HKI is constructing the 30.8-km main road, a 2.2-km interchange access road at Betung, the Betung Toll Gate, the Betung Intersection, and an underpass bridge,” said HKI Director of Operations III, Aditya Novendra Jaya.
Once operational, the toll road will cut travel time between Betung and Supat Induk from 90 minutes to just 30 minutes. In addition to enhancing connectivity in South Sumatra, the project also brings tangible benefits to local communities. The project’s activities have boosted the local economy by increasing sales of essential goods in Betung and creating job opportunities for residents — with 38% of the workforce coming from local communities.
The project not only focuses on the acceleration of physical construction but also emphasizes quality improvement through modern construction technologies. “We are implementing Building Information Modelling (BIM) for efficient design coordination and execution, LiDAR-based topographic surveys for precise planning, and Electronic Density Gauge (EDG) for non-destructive soil compaction testing. In addition, UAV Photogrammetry and Terrestrial Laser Scanning (TLS) are utilized to ensure volumetric accuracy, while Load Scanners verify material quantities. HKI also integrates Immersite360, a proprietary innovation combining virtual and real-world environments to enable virtual and interactive site monitoring — enhancing transparency, supervision efficiency, and data-driven decision-making,” explained Aditya.
The Betung–Jambi Toll Road Section 1A project also adopts environmentally friendly construction principles through various sustainability measures. Air, water, and emission quality are monitored continuously from pre-construction through execution using a risk-based management program. All heavy equipment used is of newer models to minimize emissions, while hazardous waste (B3) is managed comprehensively. Environmental care and quality standards are upheld through the QHSSE Pass Program, complemented by replantation initiatives in open areas to help preserve local ecosystems. These efforts reaffirm HKI’s commitment to ensuring infrastructure development remains aligned with sustainability principles.
“Going forward, we hope this project continues to deliver added value for the surrounding communities — not only through improved connectivity but also by stimulating local economic growth,” concluded Aditya Novendra Jaya, HKI Director of Operations III.
Currently, HKI is also working on several other Trans-Sumatra Toll Road projects, including the Pekanbaru Ring Road, Palembang–Betung Section III, Palembang–Betung Structure, Betung–Jambi Sections 1B, 2A, and 2B. Beyond JTTS, HKI is also developing the Cikampek Selatan Toll Road Package 2A, further demonstrating its dedication to advancing Indonesia’s infrastructure network.
