West Sumatra – Following the flood disaster in West Sumatra Province, the National Road Implementation Center for West Sumatra under the Directorate General of Highways, Ministry of Public Works and Housing, appointed PT Hutama Karya Infrastruktur (HKI), a subsidiary of PT Hutama Karya (Persero), to accelerate recovery efforts on the Bts. Kota Padang Panjang-Sicincin Road Section (N.040), which was heavily impacted on Saturday (11/05). The road section, spanning 6 kilometers, sustained severe damage and became impassable due to flooding.
"HKI has been entrusted to assist in post-disaster recovery for the Bts. Kota Padang Panjang-Sicincin Road, where ten critical points require immediate attention," said Eka Satriades, Project Manager for the Recovery of the Bts. Kota Padang Panjang-Sicincin Road (N.040). The repair efforts commenced in May 2024 and are targeted for completion by the end of July 2024.
"Currently, HKI is addressing issues at Km 64, focusing on Km 64+100 and 64+200, where the road was completely cut off by the flood," Eka added. In the immediate aftermath of the flood, which caused significant damage to the road, HKI swiftly mobilized heavy equipment, such as excavators and other supporting tools, from nearby HKI projects to clear debris left by the flood. "At present, HKI is conducting various works, including river normalization and road embankment restoration, to ensure the road can be functionally used by the local community as soon as possible," Eka explained.
Given that most of the recovery points were severely impacted by the flood, access to these areas poses a significant challenge. Certain locations remain difficult to reach due to the flooding, compounded by frequent rain in the region. "Nevertheless, we are committed to doing our utmost to ensure the Bts. Kota Padang Panjang-Sicincin Road can be reopened for public use as soon as possible. We seek prayers and support from all stakeholders to ensure smooth progress," Eka concluded.
As additional information, HKI, in collaboration with Hutama Karya, has previously provided aid to disaster-affected communities in Agam Regency and Tanah Datar Regency, West Sumatra. The assistance included basic necessities, clothing, and medical supplies.
