Jakarta – As part of its commitment to enhancing community welfare, PT Hutama Karya Infrastruktur (HKI) has implemented two corporate social responsibility (CSR/TJSL) programs across four provinces in Indonesia. The first program involved Training and Internships for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSME) owned by people with disabilities, conducted in Medan-North Sumatra, Pekanbaru-Riau, and Jombang-East Java last September. Meanwhile, the second CSR program focused on community empowerment through the Organic Living Workshop and Batik-Making Training, held in Gunungkidul, Yogyakarta, in early October.
Corporate Secretary of HKI, Philadelphia H.H.P, highlighted that these CSR programs align with HKI’s support for achieving one of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly economic empowerment. "Through these two CSR initiatives, we hope to improve the economic conditions of beneficiaries while fostering inclusivity for people with disabilities," he said.
In collaboration with the Berdaya Menembus Batas Foundation, HKI organized product marketing training focusing on strengthening branding strategies for offline sales on September 18, 20, and 25, 2024. The training sessions were held consecutively near HKI project sites in Medan, Pekanbaru, and Jombang, involving six MSME and six interns with disabilities. In addition to the training, these sessions marked the beginning of internships for disabled participants at each MSME from October to December 2024. The interns engaged in hands-on training tailored to their skills in culinary arts, handicrafts, fashion, and household products.
Riski Ibrahimsyah, a disabled intern from Medan, expressed his gratitude for the opportunity. One of the challenges for people with disabilities is access to employment.
"I am thankful that HKI recognizes our potential, enabling us to build a professional portfolio. Hopefully, this experience will help me secure a job that aligns with my aspirations," Riski said.
Additionally, HKI organized a community empowerment program through the Organic Living Workshop and Batik-Making Training in Karangrejek Village, Gunungkidul, Yogyakarta, on October 13, 2024. The workshop aimed to encourage residents to transform unused land into productive spaces for growing vegetables and other organic produce. These harvests could be consumed directly or sold at local markets.
The workshop, attended by 10 families, collaborated with young farmers from Argomulyo, Yogyakarta, who provided guidance on converting dry land into productive farmland, creating organic fertilizers and pesticides, and introducing growth-supporting bacteria. For residents without access to farmland, the workshop also covered vertical farming techniques and provided seeds and planting media for home gardening.
Mujiran, a community leader from Visit Karangrejek, emphasized the importance of such programs. "Karangrejek residents have been actively farming but have struggled with effective methods, resulting in suboptimal harvests. This training helps us implement proper organic farming techniques and soil treatment, leading to better yields and higher agricultural value," he said.
Following the Warung Hidup workshop held earlier the same day, HKI also conducted a batik training session for local women and homestay owners. The training was led by Serodja Widji Batik from Karangrejek Village, a small and medium enterprise (SME) supporting people with disabilities under HKI’s guidance. Homestay owners were taught basic batik skills, with their creations intended to be made into pillowcases, bedsheets, bed covers, and other souvenirs to be used and showcased to visiting guests.
HKI’s CSR programs aim to provide sustainable benefits to the target community groups in an effective and impactful way. To ensure optimal implementation, HKI will conduct monthly progress monitoring and production reports for the disability SME training and internship programs across three cities. Meanwhile, for the Warung Hidup Organik training in Karangrejek Village, the community will submit monthly reports on agricultural progress and harvests, guided by the Argomulyo Millennial Farmers team.
Earlier this year, from February to April 2024, HKI conducted a similar training program, offering Microsoft Office training and certification scholarships to 15 teenagers from three orphanages in Jakarta. As of late 2024, HKI has provided training to 40 individuals across four provinces: Medan-North Sumatra, Pekanbaru-Riau, Jombang-East Java, and Jakarta.
"We hope the benefits of HKI’s CSR programs will continue to impact the beneficiaries positively. Moving forward, HKI remains committed to creating added value for communities through other CSR initiatives," concluded Philadelphia, Corporate Secretary of HKI.
