Jakarta – PT Hutama Karya Infrastruktur (HKI), a subsidiary of PT Hutama Karya (Persero), successfully implemented 38 Social and Environmental Responsibility (CSR/TJSL) programs in 2024. These CSR programs align with government initiatives aimed at creating quality employment and entrepreneurship development, human resource development and gender equality, as well as village development for economic equity.
“CSR programs have been carried out in areas surrounding our business operations across Sumatra and Java. The initiatives are divided into three pillars of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): environmental, social, and economic, all of which provide meaningful and sustainable benefits for the communities,” said HKI President Director, Aji Prasetyanti.
Under the environmental pillar, HKI has built clean water facilities in Kota Gede, Yogyakarta. At the time, the water consumed by residents was contaminated by heavy metal activity and contained high levels of bacteria. To address this, HKI provided clean water facilities including pumps and water purifiers. The three water stations now adequately serve the community’s needs. One beneficiary, Rasyid Siswanto, shared, “Previously, we struggled to access clean water. Now, with the facilities in two neighborhoods in Padukuhan Bodon and one in Padukuhan Sayangan, around 332 to 415 people can easily obtain clean water for daily use.” Additionally, HKI also built clean water facilities in Sokaan Village, Probolinggo Regency.
HKI also ran a mangrove restoration program to protect coastal land and restore underwater ecosystems. This effort was carried out in cooperation with the Village Forest Management Institution (LDPHD) of Sungsang IV Village, Banyuasin, South Sumatra, focusing on replanting mangroves along the coastline.
In its ESG efforts, HKI implemented recycling initiatives by processing waste paper into company calendars and planners. This recycling program empowers a group of housewives from Gang Kodir, Sindangsari Village, Bogor.
On the social pillar, HKI carried out several programs, including the construction of classrooms for an Islamic boarding school in Tasikmalaya, computer course scholarships for orphanage children, daycare development within Hutama Karya’s environment, a Literacy Boat Movement in Lampung, and improvements to teaching facilities for regular and special needs schools. HKI also supported public health by providing medical examination equipment to community health centers in Pekanbaru, Riau.
In the economic pillar, HKI partnered with the Berdaya Menembus Batas Foundation (YBMB) to conduct training programs for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) owned by persons with disabilities in three cities—Medan, Pekanbaru, and Jombang—to help maximize business opportunities in the digital era. An inclusive internship program for persons with disabilities was also held in the same cities for six months to foster job opportunities.
To further support community economic growth, HKI conducted training for batik and eco-print craft MSMEs in Karangrejek Hamlet, Gunung Kidul, Yogyakarta. HKI collaborated with Serodja Widji Batik MSME to provide workshops on hand-drawn and stamped batik featuring local village motifs to enhance skills and production capacity.
In line with its corporate spirit of Building Convenience, HKI is also committed to improving access by constructing the Durian Sakok Suspension Bridge in Padang Pariaman, measuring 37 meters in length. Located in Nagari Tandikat, Padang Pariaman Regency, the bridge replaces a previously dilapidated wooden bridge. This new, stronger, and more durable steel suspension bridge allows local residents to cross the Batang Sani River without taking long detours, thereby facilitating mobility and daily activities.
Looking ahead, HKI will continue to implement CSR programs as a demonstration of the company’s commitment to providing added value and sustainable benefits for communities around its business environment and other areas in need. “We will focus on CSR programs that deliver sustainable positive impacts aligned with HKI’s ESG initiatives,” concluded Aji Prasetyanti, President Director of HKI.
